Business & Technology | Washington foreclosures continue to soar | Seattle Times Newspaper
Business & Technology | Washington foreclosures continue to soar | Seattle Times Newspaper
This is horrible for our national stability and will in turn, affect our national security at some point, and probably in a very negative fashion. I have no idea the total number of problems homelessness brings to our nation, but right now, a whole lot of people are getting screwed and the next generation or semi-generation will have a lot to crawl back from.

Clean Your Ears, Because Airport Security Might Soon Be Scanning Them
Clean Your Ears, Because Airport Security Might Soon Be Scanning Them
Why not? Fingerprint readers are easy to fake, and eye-balls have a number of faults that can be bypassed...which leads me to the idea of Hollywood makeup artists, or theater artists in general...is it not easy for them to temporarily augment their ears? Guaranteed they crack this one before it gets off the ground.
I on the other hand, am an advocate of blood-tests like in Gattaca...even though that movie is all about beating the bio-metric system, the methods they use in the film would not work.

Taliban 'seize' camera from drone
Taliban 'seize' camera from drone
Hopefully, if it doesn't make it to a major state power, this will be far too advanced to be used in any term.

Pentagon computers attacked with flash drive
Pentagon computers attacked with flash drive
Good old cyber-attack in 2008. In order to let the public know what we are dealing with, why don't most things get reported. This would let the American people understand the threats faced everyday from not just terrorists (not that anyone feels directly threatened by a terrorist in 99% of cases), but other countries, and in many cases, allies.

Iran’s President Unveils New Long-Range Drone Aircraft - NYTimes.com
Iran’s President Unveils New Long-Range Drone Aircraft - NYTimes.com
The most shocking thing about these articles, to me at least, is how fast Iranian technology has come. They can not have done it by themselves, and we know China and Russia back them, but that gets me thinking...who else do they fund collaboratively.
I can see both countries doing this in multiple countries, causing multiple areas for the US to have to spend money and "save", all the while screwing up the local power balance and in the end, screwing everyone over.
Just a thought.

What a joke.
Foggy Bottom Out of (Export) Control - The Corner - National Review Online
This would be a horrible and detrimental idea. The stealing of US technology and documents is bad enough as it is. Why open the floodgate to what would essentially be a sharing of a whole bunch of classified material, programs, methods, and technology to TCN's. TCN's are primarily used as cheap labor for us. There are better ways to upgrade their status without letting them see our secrets.

Cluster Bombs
Didn't realize how devastating these are. Read somewhere that the Russians were developing B/CW bomblets throughout the Cold War (and probably today)....nice

Pentagon: China Bolsters Projection, Anti-Access Systems - Defense News
Pentagon: China Bolsters Projection, Anti-Access Systems - Defense News
The politicians keep citing Taiwan as the major concern. To me, it would be to Japan's existence, South Korea's, and the major trade route these seas create. On top of that, the Chinese do not think like US. They are definitely 0-sum in their thought, appeasing Western powers, all the while supporting regimes we hate (Iran for example, Pakistan as another), and biding their time to "Rise Again"...not too difficult to see yet it never gets published.

Barnes and Noble Nook and Facebook
Got a Nook e-reader. The thing is pretty sweet. The best part about it for me is reading the newspaper every morning. The Washington Post arrives at 4:15AM just about every day and it helps me tremendously with my morning routine and staying up to date. As well, I am definitely reading more material that I otherwise would have totally neglected. For me, it is nice to explore the things that I haven't in the past. All of the classics are on this thing for free, there is project Gutenberg which is an open source e-books, and all around tons of free content.
I'm pretty sure they have revolutionized the way books will be read in the future. I know for graduate school they have easily cut down on the amount of wear and tear my back will sustain.
I also created a new Facebook under the same name with Senor Doughnut as my picture. My old account was getting bombed with friend requests and it was becoming such a huge distraction that I had to stop and start over.
