Afghan President Stands By Private Security Ban | News | English
They should just reliable private security into something else...easy fix.
Also, what is the state of preparedness for Karzai's military? Tell me things are going well and I will be happy...that the people can actually, successfully, take back control. Otherwise, this just seems like a decision to show progress, which is good, except when people can possibly die unwillingly because of it.

The Afghan War is Becoming the Pakistan War - Max Fisher - International - The Atlantic
The Afghan War is Becoming the Pakistan War - Max Fisher - International - The Atlantic:
"Now the Wall Street Journal reports that Pakistan's powerful spy services, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), is pushing Taliban leaders to keep fighting the U.S., resist any move towards peace, and, in the words of one Taliban commander, 'kill everyone--policemen, soldiers, engineers, teachers, civilians--just to intimidate people.' Pakistan has never been a real ally, but it's never been a real enemy either--until now."
I'm telling you, overt war within the year.

The Military's Deepening Geographic Divide - Richard Florida - Business - The Atlantic
The Military's Deepening Geographic Divide - Richard Florida - Business - The Atlantic
Posted about this before but it is just another reiteration of Gates speech at Duke. This has tremendous implications for those defending our nation, the military leaders, and political leaders of our nation. We will start seeing the effects of this when the new line of military leadership is brought in, in 10 - 20 (and maybe sooner).

AFP: Afghan violence kills 13 civilians
AFP: Afghan violence kills 13 civilians
It's sad...these stories pop up all the time in my looking for interesting articles and they don't even phase me one bit. I'm not sure how the rest of the news-reading public is, but I'm so anesthetized to civilian loss of life when I know I shouldn't be. Damn the media. I wonder how the families and relatives are compensated, but more so, how this affects us in the long run.

News outlets don't want to cover things that may quench the influx of stupid stories that shock the nation and world? No...you don't say.
