Really basic. He has stirred up a lot of controversy over his articles in The Atlantic on this issue. Thing is, based on history, I don't think Goldberg understands that sanctions don't work. Pakistan? North Korea? India? I know India is still pissed that we threw heavy sanctions on them for their nuclear "peace" tests, however, the fact is that they HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS. Once you have nuclear weapons, all threats change. You end up in a delicate balancing act where you basically let countries shift global power.
